Why we need to save Muppetvision 3D
Recently at D23, it was announced that a Monsters Inc land would be coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios. Everyone got excited about the opportunity to visit Monstropolis until they realized something scary. They didn't announce where they were going to put the land at. Several started to speculate they could get rid of fan favorite attraction Muppetvision 3D to put the new land in. Here are some reasons why that would be a mistake.
It should be a National Heritage Site
Muppetvision 3D is one of the longest lasting attractions in Hollywood Studios. It is also the last film Jim Henson ever made before passing away. The film was released on the anniversary of his death two years after he had died. Getting rid of the attraction would be getting rid of an important piece of pop culture history. It would be like getting rid of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC but in Disney World and Lincoln is Kermit the Frog.
Muppets is a legacy property
I understand that Monsters Inc is a classic at this point. The first film is over twenty years old and is beloved by several generations. That being said, The Muppets have been around since the 70's and are still a relevant piece of pop culture. Their power as a brand is astronomical and Disney does not want to mistreat the brand they own. Cultural consciousness for your property is always a plus, getting rid of The Muppets would be taking away a part of branding that is important for Disney's history as a company.
3. People still love it!
I used to work at Muppetvision 3D so I can be the first to tell you that this attraction is still popular. The show seats over 500 people per show and almost every show is about halfway filled. Each show is about 17 minutes long. That's a lot of people coming to each show. The show also seats a lot of people so the wait time is never too long which makes the guests happy. The attraction also accommodates everyone. There's no height requirements and all ages can enjoy it. With all of the simulators and rollercoasters in Hollywood Studios, it is good for guests to have an alternative if they can't ride those rides and still want to have a good time in the park.
These are three reasons why I believe Muppetvision 3D is worth saving and preserving! Let's hope the Monsters take over another part of the park!
