What is Workshopping Humanity?

Workshopping Humanity is a hub for reviews, editorials and podcasts. We explore the cultural & emotional reasons we gravitate towards media and dissect the role of media literacy in our society. Our media reflects the world and the broader questions that emerge from it through humor and pathos, where we connect media through someones personal attachment with art, or a short film that shows a creative vision from an artist, truly being able to express their own voice. Through countless editorials where our writers are able to write in depth about the way art makes them feel. At Workshopping Humanity, creative freedom is boundless and asking questions is encouraged.

“The movies are like a machine that generates empathy.”-Roger Ebert

My name is Brett Schutt, founder of Workshopping Humanity

I’ve always had a desire to tell stories. These started as scribbles in notebooks that turned into big expansive worlds I would write about in my free time. When I was in Junior High, I started to have a spark for filmmaking. Notable influential films for me include 2001: A Space Odyssey and It’s a Wonderful Life. I understood by the vast range of films I watched how films could tackle all sorts of complex struggles of the human condition I myself thought about on a regular basis. I also saw how films could take us to worlds we could only make up in our imagination. In high school, I decided to start a review blog called Artpig Reviews on Instagram where I could write about the movies I watched, needing some sort of outlet to discuss the thoughts I had about media I experienced on a daily basis.
